Father missing, Mother mentally challenged: Abijit Roy makes it to IIT Kharagpur!
It was a special day for Abhijit Roy when the results of Jee Advanced came out. The Malda boy cracked Jee advanced with a whopping AIR of 191. But what made it special was that he did not go through coaching or tutoring to crack the Jee advanced exam. Difficulties faced by Abijit
Abijith was only a toddler when his father went missing. Left with his mentally disabled mother and an ageing grandfather, Abijit’s family faced unimaginable challenges, often having to depend on various financial organizations and donations to move forward.
Overcoming challenges
Living in a cramped house with limited resources, Abijit’s determination to succeed burned brighter with each passing day. He His grandfather made ends meet as a taxi driver- driving a toto (an electric rickshaw). His grandfather’s unwavering support and sacrifices as the sole breadwinner inspired Abijit to push beyond the boundaries of his circumstances.
Admission to IIT Kharagpur
With every obstacle, Abijit battled through the odds, pouring his heart and soul into his studies, and eventually, he cracked the JEE Advanced exam – one of the toughest competitive exams in India, securing an impressive All India Rank of 191. With this rank, he was deemed eligible to be admitted into IIT Kharagpur- the oldest IIT in India. His journey wasn’t just a personal victory; it became a symbol of what can be accomplished when we dare to dream big, even in the face of adversity. To celebrate his victory, Dilip Ghosh, the influential BJP leader even came to his home, gifting him a suitcase, supporting the future endeavors of the Malda boy.
