NEET-UG 2024 Final Result: Supreme Court declines pleas to cancel NEET-UG 2024
NEET-UG 2024 Final Revised Result
On Monday, the Supreme Court of India rejected the petitions seeking a NEET-UG 2024 re-test, citing a lack of evidence to prove a systemic breach of the sanity of the exam.
Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, heading a three-judge bench comprising justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said,” At the present stage, there is an absence of material to show that the result of the exam stands vitiated. Data produced city-wise, centre-wise and comparison of results in 2022, 2023 and 2024 do not show a systematic leak of question paper which indicates a destruction of the sanctity of the exam.”
This year, 67 students achieved the top rank across India. Among them, six students were awarded additional marks to compensate for the time lost during the exam due to invigilator errors. Furthermore, 44 students initially topped the list because they were given grace marks for an incorrect response to a physics question.
However, with the release of the NEET UG 2024 final revised result, the rankings are set to change. The Supreme Court has mandated that only the correct answer will be accepted, and those who responded differently will not receive any marks for it. As a result, these 44 students will have their scores adjusted to 715 out of 720. The remaining 14 candidates, who scored a perfect 720, along with an additional 70 students who scored 716, will now precede these 44 in the rankings.
This adjustment means that the 44 candidates who initially topped due to the grace marks will be ranked lower than those who scored 720 and 716, respectively.
He further added that conducting RE-NEET would affect over 24 lakh students who appeared in the exam. The court also observed that a re-exam would cause a disruption of the admission schedule, have effects on the course of medical education and impact the availability of qualified medical professionals in the future.
Earlier, CBI told the Supreme Court that the paper was leaked on May 5. The paper was leaked in Hazaribagh and transmitted to Patna.
Over 23 Lakh students appeared for the NEET-UG 2024 exams at 4,750 centres in cities, including in 14 overseas cities.
The Supreme Court decision has brought relief to some of the students who were anxiously waiting for the outcome of the hearing whereas displeasure and dissatisfaction can be seen among other students and their parents.
The NTA will announce the revised results soon, most likely by tomorrow. Students are advised to check their results by clicking the link NEET 2024 Revised Score Card.
Following the NEET-UG 2024 Supreme Court hearing, the counselling process for medical admissions is expected to begin soon.
