Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams have been abroad at the International Space Station (ISS) since June, NASA is working on the mission of bringing both back to Earth. They carried to the ISS through Boeing Starliner spacecraft. Later on, they started facing numerous technical issues including propulsion system glitches and helium leaks. That’s why NASA’s Starliner return mission is considering backup plans for their safe return to Earth.

NASA Starline Return Options
- SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule– NASA has recently introduced the plan of using the Crew Dragon in order to bring back the Starline mission crew from space to Earth in February 2025.
- Other options– Other possibilities are also under consideration in case the Dragon crew fails. These possibilities such as using the Starliner itself, once the issues are resolved.

Research on ISS
The reason behind the Starline mission is to conduct research on fluid physics, including surface tension so that we can discover new scientific theories on the basis of microgravity conditions.
